Chanel, Fall 2009 Couture

In the fading light of a Parisian evening, Lagerfeld presented a staggering array of looks that defied the divide between day & night, long &short, modern & historicist. The Chanel couture for Fall, shown in the Grand Palais on a stage set with giant white N° 5 bottles, had a comparatively toned-down atmosphere.

Lagerfeld's single conceit was a play on graphic proportion—dresses with a longer flyaway panel in the back, all shown with lace tights and stiletto-heeled booties. He offered up some remarkable looks: a crinolined dance dress; pretty, light chiffon dresses in nude or midnight blue with ruffled trains.

Backstage Beauty
The outstanding make-up: black-bold eye-liner, Egyptian style; understated the magnificence in a thoroughly modern way and creating a sense of mystery. Top models, such the like of Siri Tollerød and Toni Garrn, instantly transformed into striking beauty.

All the Chanel craftsmanship was there, of course, and impeccably achieved. For all that, Lagerfeld didn't manage to outstrip the genius of those previous two shows. That's the annoying thing when you're competing against yourself.

Hmmm... compared to the other collections. This one is slightly no better. Look, I only found 4 of the gowns I like :(

A sad thing, since Karl always came up amazing. But, I supposes that's the annoying thing of competing with yourself. Ha3.
